Race for Life - UPDATE

I am now in my last week of training with 2 x 15 mins runs left to complete. The 5k race is on Sunday 4th July at 11.00am, Hylands Park, Chelmsford. Feeling pretty fit and confident at the moment, just hoping the weather will be kind on the day. Been watching my diet carefully this week (need lots of protein and carbs) and no alcohol allowed!! Current sponsorship stands at £240 with several pledges to collect after the event so I hope to reach my target of £300. Good luck to everyone else taking part - I will report back after the race.

Writtle Open Gardens

Visited the Writtle Open Gardens on Sunday. Writtle is a small village near Chelmsford, Essex. Many of the residents had opened their beautiful gardens to the public for one day only, which you were welcome to wander around. Organised by the Friends of Writtle Church, all proceeds were donated to All Saints Church, Writtle.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY

Back in February 2010, whilst in New York, I visited The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Metropolitan Museun is one of the world's largest and finest art museums. Its collections include more than two million works of art spanning five thousand years of world culture, from pre-history to the present and from every part of the globe.

Unlike in most UK galleries and museums, visitors are allowed to take photographs (as long as you don't get too close to the artwork) so I happily snapped away capturing my favourite artworks for future reference and to share with you here.

Founded in 1870, the Metropolitan Museum is located in New York City's Central Park along Fifth Avenue (from 80th to 84th Streets). Nearly five million people visit the Museum each year.

I was inspired and overwhelmed by many of the artworks on display. You could spend days inside the Museum and still not see everything on offer. Despite being really busy when I visited, it was still a peaceful space to be in. I was really interested in the Impressionist paintings. I love their use of colour and bold brushwork.

Race for Life - UPDATE

Completed two training runs last week for week 6. Last Friday was the 'big training run' consisting of run 20 mins, walk 5 mins x 2. This is based on the fact that 5k shouldn't take more than 50 mins to complete at a steady walk/jog/run pace.

I usually complete the course around the 40 min mark despite Hylands Park being a tough course with a lot of uneven ground. This is my fourth year taking part so I'm hoping to shave a few minutes off my time, but it depends on several factors - my fitness on the day, the state of the ground under foot, other runners/crowds and the weather. Extreme heat is not easy to run in and neither is wet weather! I'm feeling pretty confident after Friday's training run though and I'm pleased to report my fundraising now stands at £175.

Now into Week 7 and training tonight . . . wish me luck!
