Turner & the Sea, National Maritime Museum

On Friday, hubby and I visited Greenwich. First stop was 'Turner & the Sea' at The National Maritime Museum followed by Greenwich Market (lots of gorgeous handmade items for sale) and an excellent dinner at Byrons. On to the exhibition ...

An inspiring exhibition celebrating Joseph Mallord William Turner's lifelong fascination with the sea. An outstanding collection of his masterpieces alongside iconic works by other great artists including Constable and Gainsborough. The exhibition also features many of Turner's sketchbooks and preliminary drawings. I was drawn in by his dramatic seascapes that capture the power and beauty of the sea. His use of light and colour is amazing, often using a limited palette to create extraordinary effects and convey atmosphere.

My favourite exhibition of 2013. Tickets start at £10. The exhibition runs until Monday 21st April 2014. http://www.rmg.co.uk/whats-on/events/turner-and-the-sea
