New Year. New Goals.

Almost time to say cheerio to 2016 and welcome in 2017. For me, this is a time to reflect on my creative achievements (and failures) of the passing year and set myself some goals for the new year ahead.

In 2016, some of my best creative achievements were:
1. Supporting various charities by donating my work, eg: Stars on Canvas, WLAC, Turners and Loxley Painting Challenge, Twitter Art Exhibit plus Crafternoon.
2. Paintings exhibited at Beecroft Open, Annabel Dee* Gallery and Brentwood Art Trail.
3. Experimenting with different crafts - allowing me to inspire/tutor others at Craftastic craft group.

Goals for 2017:
1. Submit my paintings to new online art galleries and continue to raise my online profile.
2. 'Let go' of some old unsold work - and concentrate on a new collection of landscape paintings.
3. Continue to support charities and continue with Craftastic craft group.
4. Learn to crochet!

I'm not setting myself too many goals, but the ones I have will take time and effort. The main thing is to continue being creative and enjoy it!

So, as a new year awakens, I wish you all a happy, healthy and creative 2017.

Kittens & Cats of Greece Charity Calendar 2017

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you will know my husband and I love both cats and visiting Greece. Whilst staying in various Greek destinations, we have met many lovely kittens and cats, some in need of extra care.

Cats are rarely kept as pets in Greece and so tend to live outdoors and scavenge for food. Whilst visiting Corfu, we heard about the Agni Animal Welfare Fund. This charity helps any unwell cat, providing medication as required. They provide food to feed the many strays, helping them survive the winter. They also implement an all important neutering programme.

With this in mind, the hubby and I have created a charity desk calendar featuring just some of the many Greek kittens and cats we have met. The calendars are only £2.50 each plus P&P and all funds are being donated to the Agni Animal Welfare Fund. So, please leave me a message below if you would like to purchase one (or two - a great Christmas gift!)

It's Oh So Quiet!

I've been rather quiet on the blogging front this year for a few reasons.

Blogging can be incredibility hard to sustain on a regular basis. It is difficult to find interesting content to share with readers, especially when you focus on just one or two subjects.

I often wonder if anyone out there is actually 'listening' to me or if I am just talking to myself. I find a better rate of interaction from my posts on Twitter and Instagram. Maybe because these platforms are 'real time' and designed so that people can respond instantly. With blogging, I feel the moment has passed as soon as I post. Accessibility is also a factor. I can tweet, FB or insta from my phone or tablet in an instant, something I can't do with my blog.

Another reason is that I have become increasing involved with crafting projects which I don't tend to mention much on here. I co-run a small craft group and so have been spending much time trying out craft projects. You can see these on my Twitter and Instagram. Painting is my first love but crafting has become a relaxing outlet for me that I can share with others. I find being an artist a bit isolating, but crafting the complete opposite - and it is rewarding to share my skills and knowledge with others.

The remaining factor is time. Finding the time to write interesting posts that others will want to read. I've often been reduced to just posting a few photos and little written content, just to get something 'out there'.

However, I do see my blog as a kind of online journal. It's a great reference tool for me to look back at, chart progress and check information. So, where does this leave me? I've seen many bloggers walk away from their blogs at times like this. I don't feel the need to do that just yet, but I will be seriously thinking of where I take this blog in the new year. New design? Different or additional content? Any ideas are gratefully received ...

Stars on Canvas 2016

Here is a sneak peek of my donation to Stars on Canvas!

Stars on Canvas is a colourful and imaginative art project created by hundreds of well-known names from the worlds of art, illustration, sport, music and entertainment. Collectively, the canvases can be seen as an exploration of modern culture - how we come to revere a diverse range of stars for their particular talents, skills and personalities, and sometimes simply for their fame.

All canvases are sold online in aid of national charity, Willow. The online auction is accompanied by a public exhibition, TBC. Exciting!

Working on some further art postcard donations for charity. Enjoying experimenting with inks instead of my usual oils. Once complete, this artwork will be some wintery frosted berries for WLAC Postcards Anon
