'Earth's Diurnal Course' - NEW ethereal landscape painting

'Earths Diurnal Course' by Andrea Farmer
'Earth's Diurnal Course' is the latest addition to my ethereal landscape collection. Created in oil/ink on 762 x 762 mm deep edge box canvas. No motion has she now, no force; she neither hears nor sees; rolled around in earth's diurnal course, with rocks, and stones, and trees.

I've been experimenting with a more muted palette of late. Inspired by reading 'Monet in the 20th Century' and a contunuation of the subtle tones used in some of my coastal landscape and work on paper collections. I've also been inspired by certain poetry and song lyrics.

Purchase from my online gallery.

Commission WIP

Recently, I sold the painting 'The Land Beyond'. The buyer phoned me a few weeks later to say how much she loved the painting plus could she commission two more paintings to hang alongside the original, making a triptych. The challenge here lies in getting the mark making and shades of green the same as the original, so the buyer agreed to send 'The Land Beyond' back to me for this purpose. Above, you can see how this commission is progressing.

I've also got some new ethereal and coastal paintings in progress, which are earmarked for Chelmsford Arts Trail and Essex Record Office exhibitions. I will share these soon.

MORE travelling sketch book

In late 2006, hubby and I spent a long weekend in Almeria, Spain. Plenty of red wine and lovely tapas was consumed on the afternoon of New Year's Eve, but we didn't know that the whole town shut down for the actual New Year celebrations. Not one bar or restaurant was open to see the New Year in. We spent the evening in our hotel room with a bottle of cheap plonk and watched the fireworks out of the window. Memorable for the wrong reasons.  Anyhow, here's my sketch book pages from that weekend.

WIP

Here are two more work in progress paintings. It's taking me a while to finish these. A few artists I know are currently suffering from 'artists block' and I do feel rather distracted myself at the mo. I blame the weather. The painting in the background, on it's side, is based on a sunset view of Pethkos, Greece. The large ethereal landscape painting in the foreground is a lot more detailed than you can see in this photo. I've also got two small commissions to complete for a previous buyer, plus three exhibitions to arrange by the end of this year. Better focus and crack on then, eh? :0)

The travelling sketch book

Whilst looking through some old sketch books, I came across these drawings. In 2005, hubby and I visited Venice, Florence and Pisa for our honeymoon and I created these drawing whilst there. I like to think of these sketches as a pictorial diary, and they also evoke happy memories for me. I've got some more drawings from other places visited, which I will share soon.
