London and War Horse

Hubby and I had a lovely day out in London on Friday. Starting with a wander down Bond Street looking in Mulberry and Tiffanys we then went on to The National Gallery and Trafalgar Square. Outside the gallery, until the end of October 2011, you can see the living wall, which is created from over 8,000 plants and is based upon Van Gogh's 'A Wheatfield, with Cypresses'.

We also saw 'Nelson's Ship In A Bottle' on the forth plinth by Turner Prize-winning artist Yinka Shonibare and the Olympics 2012 countdown clock. After a visit to the gallery, we went for a yummy long lunch in Cote Brasserie in St. Martin's Lane.

Lunch was followed by a walk to Covent Garden where we saw some very bizarre street entertainment!

Then we made our way to the New London Theatre to see War Horse, which was totally amazing. I confess, I blubbed through most of the performance and was utterly captivated by the puppets and how real the horses mannerisms are. War Horse is based on the novel by author Michael Morpurgo and tells the emotionally charged story of a boy and his beloved horse. At the outbreak of World War One, Joey, young Albert’s beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped to France. Joey is soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary journey. Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a treacherous mission to the trenches to find him and bring him home.
