Sandon Open Gardens

Visited the Sandon Open Gardens yesterday. Sandon is a small town near Chelmsford, Essex. Many of the residents had opened their beautiful gardens to the public for one day only, which you were welcome to wander around. You could also purchase homegrown plants and vegetables. Many residents were also selling tea and homemade cakes, that you could sit and eat/drink whilst admiring their vast gardens. The event was in support of Farleigh Hospice.

One resident owns a small meadow (above) that overlooks her back garden. Several houses are Grade II listed buildings, one has a swimming pool, another a huge lake at the end of the property and another a paddock of horses. There is also Sandon Rectory, which is a very impressive building with it's sweeping driveway, landscaped gardens and allotment area plus Sandon Church. I particularily enjoyed visiting Butts Green Pottery: www.buttsgreenpottery.co.uk and purchased some handmade ceramic cane toppers for my own garden.
